WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM A LINE EDIT/CRITIQUE?

In a line edit/critique, I’ll be focusing on individual ways to increase your writing’s clarity, flow, impact and consistency. Not just to improve its readability, but also to increase your reader’s enjoyment of your work.

The aspects of writing that are focused on during this process are primarily (but not only) word choices, pacing, sentence structure, relevancy of included information, and any other bits that stand out.

In practical terms, the process basically consists of me reading your manuscript and writing relevant notes and suggestions all over it. Then, to clarify the feedback, writing a short, personalised, report (1 - 3 pages) covering and expanding on the I’ve comments made.

WHY WOULD I CHOOSE TO LINE EDIT?

This style of edit is ideal if:

• you’re unsure of your writing style, ability, audience and want some genuine in-depth feedback and pointers. 
• you’re just after some genuine in-depth feedback and pointers. 
• you’ve been working on a project and have simply got as far as you feel you can get on your own, and now want feedback from a detached viewpoint.

For a line edit (inc report) my fees start at:

Up to 1,500 words   - AU$80

Up to 5,000 words   - AU$150

Up to 10,000 words - AU$250

Up to 20,000 words - AU$400

If you have questions relating to the possibility of critiquing your work, please email me and include:

• the first page of your manuscript
• an outline of your plans for your work once it’s completed
• a sentence or two about who you believe your target audience is
• a word count, or estimated word count, if you have one 

I’ll then get back to you (usually within a day or two) with options, a suggested time-frame and a definite quote.

PLEASE NOTE ...

• While I’m familiar with most styles of writing, my area of expertise is in autobiographies, biographies, personal essays and fiction. 

• All the suggestions made in this critique are exactly that, suggestions. It’s entirely your choice whether you choose to integrate them into your writing.
  
  
• As with most aspects of writing, there is no guarantee that your edited writing will then be published; different publishers have different guidelines. This critique will simply offer valid and proven ways to improve the strength of your manuscript. 
  
  
• This is a critique, not proofreading! I’ll comment on relevant typos and spelling mistakes, but since a critique usually leads to editing there’s little point in proofreading it at this stage.
